All 30 teams are in action in the MLB on Saturday’s slate, which includes a doubleheader as well. Let’s take a look at the odds and free betting picks for each game in Major League Baseball.
(Game One) Minnesota Twins TBA Detroit Tigers TBA Total: TBA
The Tigers' Jose Urena had struggled before the all-star break. I cannot trust him in this spot, even at home. The Twins' Charlie Barnes will be making his MLB debut and just has to be decent for the Twins to win this game more than likely.
Pick: Minnesota Twins ML
Texas Rangers +220 Toronto Blue Jays -275 Total: 10
Although the Blue Jays dominated on Friday night, I think all of the value is on the Rangers here. Getting more than two-to-one on our money is a good spot to be in, and the Blue Jays' Ryu has not been the ace he was in 2020 for him to warrant this price.
Pick: Texas Rangers +220
Cleveland Indians +160 Oakland Athletics -190 Total: 8
I hate laying too much chalk in the MLB, but I think the A's are the only play here on the money line. Sean Manaea has been sharp for the A's and the Indians have not hit left-handers well in 2021.
Pick: Oakland Athletics -190
Miami Marlins +107 Philadelphia Phillies -117 Total: 9
I will take a shot with the road dog here in the Marlins. Miami's Zach Thompson has a 2.25 ERA and has looked sharp in his limited work thus far. The Phillies' Vince Velasquez was shelled in his last start before the break and is a fade for me here.
Pick: Miami Marlins +107
Chicago Cubs -130 Arizona Diamondbacks +110 Total: 8.5
The Cubs look to be sellers at the deadline and the Diamondbacks are the worst team in baseball, neither of these teams can be trusted too much in this spot. I think the over is worth the play here, as I expect both teams to score early and often in this one.
Pick: Over 8.5
(Game Two) Minnesota Twins -160 Detroit Tigers +140 Total: 9.5
It is really difficult to sweep doubleheaders in today's game, and I think the Twins win game one. I think the Tigers have a better shot in the second game and getting +140 on our money does not hurt either.
Pick: Detroit Tigers +140
Boston Red Sox -102 New York Yankees -118 Total: 9
I will take the Yankees behind Gerrit Cole on the mound. Nathan Eovaldi of the Red Sox will face his former team in the Bronx but I think Cole's last start in Houston is going to be more of what we see from him in the second half of the season.
Pick: New York Yankees -118
New York Mets -145 Pittsburgh Pirates +125 Total: 8.5
The Mets have not announced an official starter for this contest yet, but I am going to fade the Pirates' Wil Crowe nonetheless and roll with TBD. The Pirates have given the Mets some fits in the season series but I think New York takes this one at PNC.
Pick: New York Mets -145
San Diego Padres -125 Washington Nationals +105 Total: 9.5
The Padres got the over by themselves on Friday and I think the over is a strong play yet again on Saturday. The Nationals' Patrick Corbin and the Padres' Blake Snell have been really inconsistent this season and I could see both teams taking advantage of that at the plate.
Pick: Over 9.5
Baltimore Orioles +120 Kansas City Royals -140 Total: 10.5
The Orioles have not announced a starter in this one yet and that is a bad sign for a team that has struggled so much on the mound in 2021. I think the Royals are the better play here with the youngster Brady Singer on the mound.
Pick: Kansas City Royals -140
Milwaukee Brewers -110 Cincinnati Reds +100 Total: 7.5
This should be a great, low-scoring contest between two division rivals but I think the Reds' bats take this one late. Luis Castillo has pitched a lot better as of late than he did at the start of the season and I think Cincinnati finds the victory at home here.
Pick: Cincinnati Reds +100
Houston Astros -105 Chicago White Sox -115 Total: 9.5
UPDATE: I am going to take the over in this contest, as I think two of the American League's strongest lineups do some damage on Saturday. The wind is blowing out to right field hard and I think both teams take advantage.
Pick: Over 9.5
San Francisco Giants -113 St. Louis Cardinals -103 Total: 7.5
The Cardinals bats have been rather quiet all year and the Giants' pitching staff has been magnificent this season. This leads me to take the under in this contest with the Giants' DeSclafani on the mound. I think runs come at a premium at Busch Stadium on Saturday.
Pick: Under 7.5
Tampa Bay Rays -110 Atlanta Braves -110 Total: 7.5
The Rays have not announced a starter yet and we have seen coach Kevin Cash be sneaky with his pitching staff many times before, virtually creating the idea of the opener in baseball. I think the Rays are the better team, especially with Acuna out for the Braves. I will take Tampa Bay on the road here.
Pick: Tampa Bay Rays -110
Los Angeles Dodgers -280 Colorado Rockies +225 Total: 12.5
This game could get ugly as we have a complete mismatch at Coors Field on Saturday. I rarely like to take alternative run lines, but I am afraid I have no other options. The Rockies' Kyle Freeland has a 5.48 ERA this season and should be in big trouble in this outing.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -2.5
Seattle Mariners -110 Los Angeles Angels -110 Total: 7.5
Alex Cobb is pitching far better than his ERA may suggest and he gives the Angels the edge on Saturday. You have to give credit to the Mariners' Yusei Kikuchi for being an all-star this season but I think the Angels' bats do just enough to earn the win at home.
Pick: Los Angeles Angels -110
