It’s a lighter slate of games across the MLB on Thursday with only ten games taking place. Let’s take a look at a breakdown and a free MLB pick for each of the games.
Baltimore Orioles at Cleveland Indians
The Baltimore Orioles have really struggled this year and over the last ten games, they only have three wins. In this game, the Orioles send Jorge Lopez to the mound and he has struggled as of late. In Lopez’s last start against the Rays, he went 4.2 innings giving up eight hits and five runs. The Indians will get to him early in this game and win the game on the run line.
Play: Indians -1.5
Arizona Diamondbacks +170 at San Francisco Giants -190 Total: 7.5
Kevin Gausman is coming off his first loss of the season, but that doesn’t take away from what he has been able to do this season. Gausman currently sits with a 7-1 record and an ERA of 1.43. Look for the D-Backs to really struggle to score in this game, and the Giants will win this game on the run line.
Play: Giants -1.5
New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays
Michael King has taken over the rotation spot of Corey Kluber, and he has had some real struggles in that role. In those starts, King has a 6.35 ERA and he has had two losses. The Blue Jays offense is going to take advantage in this game, and run up the score. Back the Blue Jays on the money line.
Play: Blue Jays ML
St. Louis Cardinals +100 at Atlanta Braves -120 Total: 9
There is going to be no shortage of scoring in this game. John Gant has been awful each of his last two starts for the Cardinals, and the Braves offense is going to tee off on him. Charlie Morton has given up four runs in each of his last two starts. Look for both teams to run up the score and for the over to cash.
Chicago Cubs +111 at New York Mets -133 Total: 7.5
Jacob deGrom gets all the attention for the Mets, but what Marcus Stroman has done should also be getting a lot of attention. Stroman has gone at least six innings in each of his last seven starts, and in six of the games he gave up three runs or less. Stroman is going to have another strong game in this one, and the Mets will win this game on the money line.
Play: Mets ML
Chicago White Sox +115 at Houston Astros -135 Total: 135
Runs are going to be very hard to come by in this game. Dylan Cease has allowed two runs total over his last two starts, and the Astros bats are going to be cold. Look for Jose Uriquidy to also be strong, and the under is going to cash.
Milwaukee Brewers -165 at Colorado Rockies +138 Total: 10
Brandon Woodruff has found all kinds of success this season sitting with an ERA of 1.52 but he is at Coors Field now, and the ball is going to be flying out of the ballpark. Look for the Rockies’ offense to find success, and they will pull the upset in this game. In terms of the total, there should be plenty of scoring, and the over will cash.
Play: Rockies ML
Cincinnati Reds +142 at San Diego Padres -170 Total: 7
The San Diego Padres are talented, but they have had some struggles as of late winning only two of their last ten games. Joe Musgrove has been good for the Padres, but he isn’t going to get much run support in this game. Look for Wade Miley and the Reds bullpen to lock down, and win this game with ease. Back the Reds on the money line.
Play: Reds ML
Detroit Tigers +184 at Los Angeles Angels -222 Total: 8.5
The Angels send out Shohei Ohtani to get the start, while the Tigers will send out one of their highly ranked prospects. Matt Manning is a former first-round pick, and he might have a strong MLB career, but he is going to struggle in the first start of his career. The Anges will tee off on him, and they will win on the run line.
Play: Angels -1.5
Tampa Bay Rays -169 at Seattle Mariners +150 Total: 8.5
Kris Dunn’s record is a bit deceiving as he currently sits with an ERA of 3.91. Rich Hill gets the start for the Rays and he sits with an ERA of 3.38. Seattle is a pitcher’s ballpark and points are going to be very hard to come by in this game. Look for a low-scoring game that stays under the total.
Play: Under 8.5
