Miami Marlins -111 St. Louis Cardinals +101 Total: 8
The Marlins Sandy Alcantara has pitched well of late; he has tossed 14 innings in his last 2 starts, allowing just 3 runs with 12 strikeouts. The Cardinals Johan Oviedo has allowed 15 runs over his last 18.2 innings with 14 walks compared to 12 strikeouts. The Marlins have been owned in this series but should have a good chance for the upset here, with the Cardinals hitting a collective .221 over the last 2 weeks.
Pick: Miami Marlins -111
Cincinnati Reds +135 Milwaukee Brewers -145 Total: 8
The Brewers are 2-0 in Peralta’s starts against the Reds this season; he has allowed 3 runs over 8.2 innings with 13 strikeouts. The Reds Tyler Mahle has pitched well of late, allowing 6 runs in his last 4 starts, and the Reds are 4-0 in those games. The Reds are swinging the bat much better however, ranking second in runs (84) and average (.275) over the last two weeks.
Pick: Cincinnati Reds +135
Detroit Tigers +135 Kansas City Royals -145 Total: 9
The Royals have not gotten good production from their starters this season, ranking 27th with a 5.14 staff ERA. Their starter in this one will be Brady Singer, who is 2-3 with a 4.30 ERA at home. In addition, their bullpen has a 5.90 ERA over the last two weeks. Detroit’s Tarik Skubal has allowed just 3 runs over his last 10 innings on the road, and the Tigers have won both games. Detroit has also been swinging the bat well of late, averaging 5.1 runs per game over the last week.
Pick: Detroit Tigers +135
Tampa Bay Rays Chicago White Sox Total:
The Rays are 5-1 in Ryan Yarboroughs starts on the road this season. He has allowed just 4 hits in 23 career at bats against this White Sox lineup. The White Sox will start Lucas Giolito in this one; he has shown some weakness of late, allowing 6 home runs in his last three starts. The Rays bullpen has led the league with a 2.54 ERA over the last two weeks, with a miniscule 1.03 WHIP and .195 average against.
Pick: Tampa Bay Rays
San Diego Padres -172 Colorado Rockies +157 Total: 12
San Diego’s Blake Snell has a 9.24 road ERA this season and has allowed 15 runs over his last 9.2 such innings. Kyle Freeland has not fared much better for Colorado, allowing 17 runs over his last 13 innings. Considering this game is being played at Coors field, we should expect some scoring in this one.
Pick: Over 12
Los Angeles Angels +120 Oakland Athletics -130 Total: 9
The A’s Cole Irvin has allowed just 2 runs over his last 12 innings since losing to the Angels in Los Angeles and will look to have a strong outing here. The Angels will be without Mike Trout until at least next week. They will start Griffin Canning in this one; he has a 5.25 ERA on the road while allowing a hit per inning in 5 starts. Oakland’s bullpen is 10-2 with a 3.03 ERA over the last two weeks.
Pick: Oakland Athletics -130
Pittsburgh Pirates Washington Nationals Total:
The Nationals have yet to announce a starter, but their bullpen should be able to shoulder the load if they opt for a non-traditional opener instead. They rank 3rd in the majors with a 2.89 ERA over the last two weeks, limiting their opposition to a .200 batting average. The Pirates are scoring just 3.06 runs per game with a .223 average on the road this year.
Pick: Washington Nationals
Boston Red Sox +143 Atlanta Braves -153 Total: 9
The Braves Ian Anderson returned to form in his last start, tossing 7 shutout innings against the Phillies after allowing 4 runs in each of his first two starts. Opponents are hitting just .205 against him at home, while averaging just over a strikeout per inning. Garret Richards has a 2.89 ERA on the road for the Red Sox and has allowed no more than 3 runs in each of his last three road starts.
Pick: Under 9
New York Yankees -160 Toronto Blue Jays +150 Total: 8.5
Gerrit Cole will be on the mound for New York in this one. He is 4-1 with a 2.37 ERA on the road this season. He has allowed just 3 runs with 16 strikeouts in 11.1 innings against the Blue Jays this season. The Yankees tagged Toronto’s starter Ross Stripling for 7 hits and 3 runs in 3.1 innings earlier this season.
Pick: New York Yankees -160
Baltimore Orioles +147 Cleveland Indians -157 Total: 8
Aaron Civale struggled in his last outing against the Orioles but will be back home where he is 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA this season. In his last start he went 8 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts at home. The Orioles have a combined .147 batting average in their last 5 games while scoring just 11 runs. The Indians have not been much better from the plate but should be able to ride the pitching advantage at home.
Pick: Cleveland Indians -157
Chicago Cubs New York Mets Total:
Jacob deGrom is on the mound for the Mets in this one; he leads the league with a 0.56 ERA and 0.53 WHIP this season. The Mets are 5-0 in his last 5 starts. The Cubs bullpen ranks second in the league with a 2.59 ERA this season but could be tested without a starter being announced to this point. The Cubs are also struggling from the plate, hitting just .181 over the last 7 days.
Texas Rangers +210 Houston Astros -240 Total: 8.5
The Houston Astros have been red-hot from the plate, leading the league with a .307 average and .911 OPS over the last two weeks. The Rangers have been the opposite, hitting a collective .225 over that same stretch. The Astro’s Zach Greinke has had a solid season with a respectable 3.68 ERA and should be able to limit a slumping Rangers lineup.
Pick: Houston Astros -1.5
Arizona Diamondbacks +150 San Francisco Giants -160 Total: 8
The Giants are 3-0 in Anthony DeSclafani’s most recent starts; he has allowed just 4 runs over 19.2 innings with 15 strikeouts. The Diamondbacks are not getting on base of late, with a .277 OBP over the last 2 weeks. Their starter for this one will be Merrill Kelly; the Diamondbacks are 0-3 in his recent starts, and he has allowed 12 runs and 19 hits over 17.2 innings.
Pick: San Francisco Giants -160
Minnesota Twins -115 Seattle Mariners +105 Total: 8.5
Minnesota leads the league with 34 home runs off left-handed pitching this season. They also lead the majors with 25 home runs over the last two weeks. The Mariners lefty Justus Sheffield has allowed over a hit per inning in each of his last 4 starts, while giving up 2 home runs in each of his last 2. The Mariners rank last in the majors with a .210 batting average.
Pick: Minnesota Twins -115
Philadelphia Phillies +143 Los Angeles Dodgers -153 Total:
The Dodgers Clayton Kershaw has looked vulnerable at times this season but has had success against this Phillies lineup in his career. He has allowed limited them to a .189 average with 37 strikeouts in 122 at-bats. On the flip side, the Phillies Zach Wheeler has allowed 5 home runs in 41 career at bats against this Dodgers lineup. Both bullpens rank in the top ten in ERA over the last two weeks, so this will likely be decided by the starters.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -153
