The Arizona Diamondbacks face the Washington Nationals on Saturday, April 17th at Nationals Park for game three of a four-game series.
The Washington Nationals took down the Arizona Diamondbacks in what was a pitcher's duel on Friday night. The Nats only needed one run and that came off of a walk-off solo home run by Kyle Schwarber in the ninth inning. Max Scherzer was excellent, throwing 7.0 sharp innings of two-hit ball with 10 strikeouts. The Diamondbacks only had a total of three hits in the game while the Nationals had five. The Nationals and D-Backs have now split the first two games of this series. The Diamondbacks are now 5-9 on the year as they remain in fourth place in the NL West standings. The Washington Nationals improved to 4-7 with the win, as they are still in last place in the NL East standings.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are projected to bring right-hander Luke Weaver to the mound to face the Nats on Saturday. Weaver is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA through his first 12.2 innings. More impressively, Weaver has a 0.47 WHIP this season, as he only allowed one hit through 7.0 innings in his last start against a tough Reds lineup.
The Washington Nationals are projected to send right-hander Erick Fedde to the bump to take on the D-Backs. Fedde is 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA through only 6.1 innings of work this season. Fedde has struggled badly this season, but he has not allowed a home run yet this season. Fedde has walked five batters in 6.1 innings, which is an issue that he has to work on.
There is no way I can take the Nationals here with Fedde on the mound, and although Weaver has been inconsistent recently, I have a lot more faith in him than I do Fedde. I expect the Diamondbacks to score early and often and take the third game of this series.
