The Minnesota Twins and Detroit TIgers face off on Monday afternoon in an American League Central MLB showdown at Comerica Park.
The Minnesota Twins opened up their season blowing a lead in the 9th inning against the Milwaukee Brewers but since that point they have won two straight games. On Saturday the Twins were able to win 2-0 and on Sunday it was much of hte same as the Twins won 8-2. The long ball has been a big part of the Twins offense the last few years and on Sunday Miguel Sano and Mitch Garver both hit one out of the ballpark. Injuries are already starting to hurt the Twins and Josh Donaldson is on the DL. Byron Buxton also ha to leave Sunday’s game and his status is up in the air.
On the other side of this matchup is the Detroit TIgers who won their first two games of the season against the Indians before being defeated on Sunday. Even though they have won two games, this is a Tigers offense that has only scored 11 runs total. Miguel Cabrera and Nomar Mazara have each driven in three runs and also hit one home run.
Matt Shoemaker will get the start for the Twins after spending the last couple of years with the Toronto Blue Jays. Last season with the Jays Shoemaker appeared in six games finishing with an 0-1 record and an ERA of 4.71.
On the mound for the Tigers will be Jose Urena who has come over to the Tigers from the Miami Marlins. Last season, Urena appeared in five games sitting with an 0-3 record and an ERA of 5.40.
The Twins are 2-1 in their last three games overall. The Twins are 5-2 in their last seven games played on Monday. The Tigers are 27-69 in their last 96 home games. The under is 7-2 in the Twins last nine road games. The under is 5-1 in the Tigers last six games overall. The under is 6-2-1 in the last nine meetings played between the Tigers and Twins.
The Twins offense is hot and that is going to be the difference in this game. Look for the Twins to get to Urena early and that will lead to the Twins winning this game on the run line. Back the Twins -1.5.
