The Kansas City Royals will host the Texas Rangers in the final game of their three game set on Sunday. The Royals will be going for the sweep after taking the first two games.
Kansas City came away with an 11-4 victory on Saturday. Starter Mike Minor went 6 innings and gave up 4 runs before turning it over to the bullpen for 3 scoreless innings. The offense had 13 hits, and were 7-14 with runners in scoring position. Four players each scored 2 runs in the rout. Michael Taylor and Whit Merrifield both homered for the second time this season. On the season the Royals offense has a collective .384 batting average and 1.163 OPS, both best in the majors to through two games.
The Royals will call on youngster Brady Singer to start on Sunday. In 2020 he was 4-5 with a 4.06 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 61 strikeouts. During spring training he was 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 20 strikeouts.
The Rangers will look to right the ship after dropping their first two games. Pitching has been the issue. They have given up 25 runs in the first two games. In their last game the bullpen gave up 8 runs in just 3 innings. On the flip side the offense has been producing, having scored 14 runs in the first two games. Last time out Joey Gallo had a great day from the plate, going 1-2 with two walks, a home run and 2 RBI with 2 runs scored. To start the season the the Rangers are batting a collective .292.
Texas will start journeyman Jordan Lyles in the series finale. In 2020 he was 1-6 with a 7.02 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 36 strikeouts. During spring training he was 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 11 strikeouts.
It is going to be a long year for the Texas Rangers, as they are in the beginning of a rebuild. Both their rotation and bullpen lack reliable arms so this rough start is to be expected. The theme will not change for the Rangers in this game with Jordan Lyles starting. The Royals should have no trouble keeping things rolling against him. Brady Singer had an up and down rookie season in 2020, but finished strong with quality starts in 3 of his last 4 outings. He also looked good in spring training and could be poised for a big step forward this year. All signs are pointing toward a sweep in Kansas City. Give me the Royals to win.
