The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers face off in Game 3 of their National League Division Series at Globe Life Field.
The Padres have their backs against the wall after losing the first two games of this series.
It will be interesting to see how the Padres come out in this game after how Game 2 ended. The Padres had loaded the bases in the 9th inning and were only down one run but they grounded out and lost the game. After the Padres only scored one run in the first game, the offense finally did get a little traction in game 2, something they might be able to carry over into this game. Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer hit back to back home runs. In this game it’s going to be important they don’t just count on the home runs and try to manufacture more runs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Dodgers who have just went about their business and came away with back to back wins. There does have to be a little concern with the way the bullpen almost cost them the game in Game 2. Corey Seager and Mookie Betts have been the two best offensive players these playoffs combining for seven RBI’s. Seager did have two runs driven in Wednesday’s game. The starting pitcher for the Dodgers hasn’t been announced yet, but whoever does get that job needs to go late in the game so the Dodgers don’t have to count on the bullpen.
The Dodgers are 40-13 in their last 53 games overall. The Padres are 3-9 in their last 12 playoff games. The over is 6-2 in the Padres last eight games played on Tuesday. The Dodgers are 40-14 in their last 54 games played on Tuesday. The Dodgers are 38-15 in their last 53 meetings against the Padres.
After the way the Padres lost on Wednesday, I think this is a game where they start off slow and that is going to hurt them in this game. Look for the Dodgers offense to run up the score in this game, the Padres offense will be shut down, and that will lead to the Dodgers winning this game on the run line.
