The Cincinnati Reds face the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, October 1st at Truist Park for game two of the National League Wild Card series.
The Atlanta Braves defeated the Cincinnati Reds by the final score of 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in game one of this series. It took 13 innings, but the Braves were finally able to score the first and only run of the game off a Freddie Freeman walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 13th. The Braves now lead the series 1-0 and will look to sweep the series and advance with a win in game two on Thursday. Both team's pitching staff shined brightly in game one of the series, and Trevor Bauer produced one of the greatest outings by a starting pitcher in recent playoff history for the Reds. The Reds will need to find a win on Thursday, or their season will end in the Wild Card series.
The Cincinnati Reds are set to bring right-hander Luis Castillo to the mound to face the Braves in game two of the series. Castillo went 4-6 with a 3.21 ERA during the regular season with the Reds. Castillo can be electric at times, and missing bats is the biggest part of his game. Castillo is not the most consistent guy, but when he is on, he can be one of the toughest starters to face in the entire league.
The Atlanta Braves will send right-hander Ian Anderson to the bump for game two of this series. Anderson finished his rookie campaign with a 3-2 record and a 1.95 ERA through his first 32.1 innings in the majors. Anderson was a key part of this Braves rotation during the 2020 regular season, especially after Mike Soroka went down with a season-ending injury. Anderson will look to send the Braves to the NLDS with a sharp performance in game two.
After a postseason classic in game one of this series, I like the Braves to take game two as well and end these series on Thursday. I like Anderson to pitch well in his first career postseason start in the MLB, and I like the Braves' bats to support him.
