The New York Yankees face the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday, September 30th at Progressive Field for game two of the American League Wild Card series.
The New York Yankees took down the Cleveland Indians by the final score of 12-3 in game one of the American League Wild Card. Gerrit Cole and the Yankees surprised the Indians on Tuesday night, as the Bronx Bombers spoiled the first game of the series for Cleveland. The Indians brought the AL Cy Young favorite Shane Bieber to the mound in game one, and the Yankees hit him hard. A two-run home run by Aaron Judge in the first inning paved the way for the Yankees to put a seven-spot on Bieber on Tuesday, as it was his worst start of 2020. The Yankees now have a 1-0 series lead and will look to eliminate the Indians on Wednesday with another win on the road.
The New York Yankees are set to bring right-hander Masahiro Tanaka to the mound to face the Indians in game two. Tanaka went 3-3 with a 3.56 ERA during the 2020 regular season with the Yankees. Tanaka was able to produce solid numbers in his seventh season as a Yankee, posting his best ERA in four years. Tanaka will look to silence the Indians' bats in game two of this series.
The Cleveland Indians will send right-hander Carlos Carrasco to the bump for Wednesday's game. Carrasco went 3-4 with a 2.91 ERA through 68.0 innings of work for the Indians during the regular season. Carrasco struggled in 2019, but his 2020 campaign was the big rebound that he and the Indians needed this season. Carrasco will look to keep the Indians alive with a sharp start in a must-win game for Cleveland.
I believe the clear holes in the Indians' lineup were shown in game one of this series. The Yankees came to play in game one, and I think they are going to bring it home in game two. I expect yet another high scoring affair on Wednesday, and I like the Yankees to win and advance to the ALDS.
