The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers face off on Friday in a doubleheader at Busch Stadium. This is a preview for Game 1 and since it’s a doubleheader this game will only be seven innings long. This is a key game in the National League playoff race. On Friday it was the Cardinals who got the best of the Brewers winning 4-2.
The St. Louis Cardinals know how important this series and they got it out on the right foot. Coming into this game the Cardinals have won two of their last three games but the one loss was a bad one against the Royals, a game they gave up 13 runs in. Even though the Cardinals have had success, they have struggled to run up the score and with Jack Flaherty on the mound, they might have to run up the score to have a chance to come away with a win.
On the other side of this matchup is the Milwaukee Brewers who come into this game having lost three of the last four games. Much like the Cardinals, the Brewers offense is struggling coming into this game, and in this weekend series they need to be better. Over the last four games the Brewers have scored only nine runs total. The best offensive player this season for the Brewers has been Keston Hiura who has hit 13 home runs and driving in 32 RBI’s.
Jack Flaherty is going to get the start for the Cardinals and coming into this game he sits with a 4-2 record and an ERA of 4.84.
The under is 11-4-2 in the Cardinals last 17 road games. The Cardinals are 3-7 in their last ten games played on Friday. The over is 7-3 in Flaherty’s last ten starts on grass.
These are two offenses who have struggled coming into this game and that is going to continue in this game. Look for both teams to struggle to score in this game and that is going to keep this game under the posted total. In terms of the side it's a lean to the Brewers.
