The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet Friday in MLB action from Chase Field.
This will be the first outing in a four-game weekend series between Arizona and Colorado, and the first game in a Friday doubleheader. The Rockies are coming out of a set versus the Giants, losing two of the first three games. In the Thursday finale, Colorado powered out a 5-4 victory, fighting back from three runs down to an 11th-inning finish. As for the Diamondbacks, they played the Rangers this week. Arizona won both those games, 7-0 Tuesday and 7-3 Wednesday. Check back all season long for free MLB picks and MLB predictions at Sports Chat Place.
The Rockies managed 13 hits to the Giants’ 10 in the Thursday victory. Five different Colorado players had multiple knocks in that one. Starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez posted a no-decision with 5.1 innings, eight hits, three earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts.
In the Friday starting pitcher role, the Rockies are going with Antonio Senzatela. In his 11 games this season, Senzatela is 5-2 with a 3.13 ERA and 39 Ks in 69.0 innings. Across his MLB career, Senzatela is 32-24 with a 4.97 ERA and 286 Ks in 418.2 innings.
Over on the Diamondbacks’ side, they’ve got a few key bats in their lineup this season. Kole Calhoun is hitting a tepid .229 but leads the team with 15 homers and 37 RBI. Christian Walker has a .274 batting average with 31 runs, six homers and 32 RBI himself. David Peralta is hitting .297 with five homers, 31 RBI and 18 runs thus far.
In the starter job on Friday, Arizona is sending out Zac Gallen. In his 11 games this year, Gallen is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 66.0 innings of work. Gallen is 5-8 over his MLB career with a 2.90 ERA and 168 Ks in 146.0 innings.
The Rockies are 21-43 in the last 64 road games and 5-11 in the last 16 overall. Colorado is 8-19 in the last 27 games versus a right-handed starter and 3-8 in their last 11 versus the National League West.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 4-0 in their last four Friday games and 4-9 in their last 13 home games. Arizona is 9-23 in their last 32 overall and 9-23 in the last 32 on grass.
Pick: I’m going to go with Arizona. Senzatela’s numbers this season are pretty decent, but he’s still got that relatively low strikeout rate and seems to be overachieving statistically in 2020. In any case, Gallen posted three runs (one earned) in six innings versus Houston in his last start. Gallen started the season out great but has stumbled a bit lately. I think he’ll get it back here and put the Diamondbacks in a nice spot for a win.
