The Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals face off on Tuesday in a doubleheader at National Park. This preview is for Game 2 of the doubleheader and since it is a doubleheader this game will only be seven innings long.
The Philadelphia Phillies need to be careful or they might find themselves out of the playoffs and that would be quite the disappointment. Coming into this game the Phillies have lost three games in a row and Monday’s game against the Nationals wasn’t one they could afford to lose. J.T. Realmuto has been the best player for the Phillies this season having 11 home runs and driving in 30 RBI’s. The Phillies bullpen has also been a big issue this season and in this game, they need the bullpen o be better and not cost them another game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Washington Nationals who won’t be making the playoffs, but they do come into this game having wontwo in a row. Two games ago against the Miami Marlins the Nationals put up 15 runs. Juan Soto and Trea Turner have been the best players so it’s only fitting that they both have driven in 32 runs this season. They jumped out to an early lead in the last game and they need to make it happen again.
Just looking at the first game, the Nationals will probably have their bullpen used heavily, so whoever is the starter in this game needs to be good and not get lit up early.
The over is 7-3 in the Phillies last ten road games. Washington is 11-4 in their last 15 games played on Tuesday. The over is 24-10-2 in the Nationals last 36 games played on grass. The under is 11-4-3 in the last 18 meetings between the Phillies and Nationals.
When these two teams face off the under is a strong play and with a shorter game the Phillies offense shouldn’t need as many innings. Look for both teams to struggle to score and this game is going to go under.
