The Philadelphia Phillies face the Washington Nationals on Monday, September 21st at Nationals Park for game one of a four-game series.
The Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals are set to finish their season series with a four-game series in DC. The Phillies have dominated the Nats this season, as they are a perfect 6-0 against Washington so far this season. The Phillies head into this road series with a 27-26 record which is good for third place in the NL East. The Phillies could still grab second place and even first in the NL East, so expect Philadelphia to play hard in this series at Nationals Park. The Nationals are 12 games under .500 at 20-32, which puts them in last place in the division standings. The Nationals split a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins on Sunday, losing the first game 2-1 and winning the second game by an impressive 15-0 score.
The Philadelphia Phillies are set to bring right-hander Zack Wheeler to the mound to face the Nationals. Wheeler is 4-0 with a 2.62 ERA through 58.1 innings this season with the Phillies. Wheeler allowed three earned runs through 7.1 innings against the New York Mets in his last start on September 16th. That start was Wheeler's first since he injured his finger while putting on a pair of jeans. (I kid you not.)
The Washington Nationals will send right-hander Anibal Sanchez to the bump for Monday's contest. Sanchez is 2-5 with a 7.38 ERA through 42.2 innings this season with the Nationals. Sanchez has obviously had a really poor season, but the Nationals do not really have another option in the rotation as of now. Sanchez allowed six earned runs through 4.1 innings in his most recent outing against the Tampa Bay Rays.
I will take the Phillies as the road favorites in this game, as I expect Philadelphia to hit Anibal Sanchez hard. Wheeler just has to give the Phillies a quality start in this game for the Phillies to win this game easily, and I think we see exactly that. The Phillies bullpen scares me too much to take them on the run line, so I will take the Phillies on the money line here.
