The San Francisco Giants face the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, September 20th at Oakland Coliseum for game three of a three-game series.
The Oakland Athletics took down the San Francisco Giants by the final score of 6-0 on Saturday night in game two of this series. It was an instance of déjà vu in Oakland, as the A's also took down the Giants by the same score of 6-0 in game one of this series as well. The Athletics are now a perfect 5-0 this season against the Giants, and Oakland will look to pull off the sweep of the season series with a win at home on Sunday. The Athletics are now 33-19 on the year, as they are 7.0 games ahead of the Astros in the AL West standings and have already clinched a playoff spot. The San Francisco Giants are now a game under .500 at 25-26, which puts them in third place in the NL West. If the Giants make the postseason this season, it will be via one of the two wild card spots in the National League, as the Dodgers and Padres have already built impressive leads for first and second place in the division standings.
The San Francisco Giants will bring right-hander Johnny Cueto to the mound to face the Athletics. Cueto is 2-1 with a 4.78 ERA through his first 52.2 innings of the season with the Giants. Cueto is coming off one of his worst starts of the season where he allowed six total runs on seven hits through 5.1 innings against the San Diego Padres.
The Oakland Athletics will send their trade deadline acquisition in left-hander Mike Minor to the bump for Sunday's contest. Minor is 1-5 with a 5.40 ERA through his first 46.2 innings of the season. Minor tossed 7.0 gorgeous innings in his most recent outing against the Mariners, allowing only two hits and no runs with eight strikeouts.
I am going to take the Athletics on the run line at home in game three of this series. The Athletics have been too much for the Giants this season, and I believe that trend continues on Sunday. I will lay the 1.5 runs with Oakland.
