The San Diego Padres face the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, September 20th at Petco Park for game three of a three-game series.
The Seattle Mariners defeated the San Diego Padres by the final score of 4-1 on Saturday night in game two of this series. With the win for the Mariners, the season series is now in their favor at 3-2, and a win on Sunday would earn the M's a series win. The Padres may be playing at Petco Park for this series, but they are not the official home team. (smokey skies in Seattle.) The Mariners are now 23-29 on the year, as they remain three games behind the Astros for second place in the AL West standings. The Padres are 13 games above .500 at 33-20 on the year, which has them safely in second place in the NL West divisional standings. The Padres will look to even up the season series as the official road team in game three of this series, as the team's hopes of an NL West divisional crown are not completely dead yet.
The San Diego Padres are set to bring right-hander Dinelson Lamet to the mound to face the Mariners. Lamet is 3-1 with a 2.12 ERA through his first 59.1 innings of the season with the Padres. Lamet tossed 7.0 strong innings in his last start, striking out 11 batters and allowing only one earned run against the Dodgers on September 14th.
The Seattle Mariners will send right-hander Justin Dunn to the bump for Sunday's contest. Dunn is 3-1 with a 4.11 ERA through his first 35.0 innings of the season with the Mariners. Dunn allowed one earned run through 2.0 innings in his most recent outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks on September 13th.
The Padres play well at their home ballpark of Petco Park, and I like San Diego to win this game big on Sunday. Lamet has been fantastic this season, and at times he is downright untouchable. I think Lamet can toss at least 5.0 strong innings for the Padres, while the bats will carry the team the rest of the way for big Padres win. I will lay the 1.5 runs on the run line with San Diego here.
