The Minnesota Twins and the Chicago Cubs meet Saturday in MLB action from Wrigley Field.
This will be the second installment of a three-game weekend series between these teams. In the Friday evening set opener, we had quite an intense game. The Cubs scored once in the first inning and were able to hold on for a 1-0 win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks and MLB predictions at Pick Dawgz.
The Twins tied the Cubs 3-3 on hits in the Friday loss, but couldn’t get anything going on the scoreboard. Minnesota’s starting pitcher Rich Hill took a tough-luck loss with a nice outing. Hill posted 7.0 innings, three hits, one earned, two walks and five strikeouts. Hill is now 2-2 on the year with a 3.27 ERA.
For the Saturday starting pitcher role, Minnesota will go with Michael Pineda. In his three starts this season, Pineda is 1-0 with a 3.57 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 17.2 innings total. In his MLB career, Pineda is 52-46 with a 4.03 ERA and 847 Ks in 843.2 innings of work.
Over on the Cubs’ side, Friday starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks managed 8.0 innings with three hits, one walk and 10 strikeouts in the victory. Wilson Contreras provided Chicago’s lone RBI, posting a 2-for-3 evening with a walk. Anthony Rizzo plated the run, going 0-for-3. Rizzo is now hitting just .216 on the 2020 season.
For the Saturday starter job, Chicago will send out Alec Mills. In nine starts this year, Mills is 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 52.2 innings. In his MLB career, Mills is 6-4 with a 3.85 ERA and 106 Ks in 110.0 innings total.
The Twins are 10-3 in their last 13 interleague games as a favorite and 28-12 in their last 40 Saturday games. Minnesota is 11-5 in their last 16 games overall and 2-7 in their last nine games as a road favorite.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 10-4 in their last 14 interleague games versus a right-handed starter and 45-22 in their last 67 interleague games. Chicago is 2-5 in their last seven Saturday games and the under is 3-0-1 in their last four during game two of a series.
Pick: I’m going Cubs here. Pindeda had a sketchy start his last time out but held the team in the game, going 4.2 innings with three runs versus the Indians. As for Mills, this will be his first start since his no-hitter versus Milwaukee on Sunday. In his last pair of outings, Mills has 15 shutout innings with four hits and 11 strikeouts. I like him to keep it going here and help Chicago get a win.
Andrew’s Pick Chicago Cubs +120
