The St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Friday in a doubleheader at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. This preview is for Game 2 of the doubleheader, and since it is a doubleheader the game will only be seven innings. In the first game of this series it was the Pirates who were able to come away with a 5-1 victory.
The Pirates offense has really struggled so far this season and even on THursday when they won they only scored five runs. Over the last ten games they haven’t scored more than five runs and they have lost eight of their last nine games. On Thursday the difference for the Pirates was Gregory Polanco who hit two home runs and drove in three RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Cardinals who need to take advantage of this series and losing the first game wasn’t good. The Cardinals come into this game having lost two games in a row and during those two games they only scored one run. Brad Miller has been the best offensive player for the team hitting seven home runs and driving in 24 RBI’s. The Cardinals offense has struggled but they have a good matchup against a pitcher who has struggled and in this game they need to find a way to get the offense going.
Chad Kuhl will get the start for the Pirates and coming into this game he sits with a 1-2 record and an ERA of 5.50.
The over is 10-2-1 in the Pirates last 13 games played on Friday. The Pirates are 2-7 in their last nine games played on Friday. The Pirates are 4-12 in their last 16 meetings against the Cardinals. The Pirates are 2-6 in Kuhl’s last eight starts against the Cardinals.
Kuhl has been terrible this year and terrible against the Cardinals. Something that will continue in this game. Look for the Cardinals to run up the score and they will have no issue coming away with the victory in this game. In terms of the total it's a lean to the over.
