The Cleveland Indians face the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, September 17th at Comerica Park for game one of a four-game series.
The Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers are set for a four-game series at Comerica Park to wrap up their season series. So far, the Indians lead the season series 4-2, but with a sweep the Tigers can still win the series. The Indians are coming off a disappointing loss to the Chicago Cubs in extra innings by the final score of 3-2. The Indians losing streak has now been extended to eight games, which now has them at a distant third place in the AL Central. The Detroit Tigers shutout the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night, but then were shutout themselves by the Royals the next night. The Tigers are currently 21-27 and are 5.0 games behind the Indians in the AL Central standings. The Tigers have now lost four of their last five games overall.
The Cleveland Indians are set to bring right-hander an AL Cy Young front-runner Shane Bieber to the mound to face the Tigers. Bieber has been astonishing this season, as he currently owns a 7-1 record with a 1.53 ERA through 64.2 innings this season with the Indians. In Bieber's last start against the Twins he allowed three earned runs through 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts. Bieber is currently first in the league in ERA and strikeouts this season.
The Detroit Tigers will send right-hander Casey Mize to the bump for Thursday's contest. Mize is 0-1 with a 5.85 ERA through his first 20.0 innings of the season with the Tigers. Mize allowed two earned runs through 5.1 innings in his last start against the Chicago White Sox on September 11th.
With Bieber on the mound, the Indians open as huge favorites at -265 on the money line. I like the Indians to bounce back after a tough loss to the Cubs and take down the Tigers easily. I would not be shocked if Bieber tossed yet another shutout in this one, and I will lay the 1.5 runs on the run line with the Indians in Thursday's game.
