The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers face off in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Miller Park. This preview is for game one and since it’s a doubleheader this game will only be seven innings long. The Brewers have won two of the first three games of this series. On Tuesday the Brewers were able to win 18-3.
The Cardinals knew this was going to be a big series but they need to get their confidence back quickly or their season could be in a lot of trouble. The good news for the Cardinals is even through they struggled on Tuesday, they only used four pitchers which means the bullpen should be okay for this doubleheader, but they do need a long start in this game. Brad Miller has been the best offensive player for the Cardinals hitting six home runs and driving in 23 RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Brewers who have to feel good about their offense because they had really been struggling. Before scoring 18 runs on Tuesday they hadn’t scored more than two runs in any of their previous five games. Daniel Voglebach and Keston Huira were the two starts of the show driving in four runs. In this game if they want a chance to come away with a victory their offense is going to need to be good. Going against Wainwright isn’t going to be easy, but they need a team effort to step up.
Adam Wainwright will get the start for the Cardinals and coming into this game he sits with a 4-1 record and an ERA of 2.91.
The Cardinals are 13-5 in Wainwright’s last 18 games played on Wednesday. The Cardinals are 18-7 in Wainwright’s last 25 starts. The Brewers are 18-6 in their last 24 games played on Wednesday.
Wainwright has found a lot of success in this game and he should have no issue getting the job done in this one. Look for the Brewers bats to be tamed in this game, and that will lead to the Cardinals winning this game.
