The Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles face off in an interleague showdown on Wednesday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. On Tuesday it was the Braves who got the best of the Orioles coming away with a 5-1 victory which was a good bounce back after the O’s won by 13 runs on Monday.
Getting a win was important for the Braves, but probably just as important for them was their pitching staff finally stepping up giving up only one run. This is a pitching staff that has struggled so to win games they have needed their offense to step up in a big way. This is an offense that just last week put up 29 runs against the Miami Marlins. Freddie Freeman has been the star of the show for the Braves hitting 11 home runs and driving in 46 RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Orioles who’s offense has really been an issue at times. In five of the last six games the Orioles have scored one run or less and the other game was Monday’s game where they put up 13 runs. If they want to get their season back on the right track the offense needs to be better.
Cole Hamels is going to get the start for the Atlanta Braves and this will be his first start with the new team. Hamels was dealing with left triceps tendinitis and he probably won’t go too deep in this game.
On the mound for the O’s will be Keegan Akin who comes into this game with an 0-1 record and an ERA of 4.61.In 13.2 innings pitched so far this year he has given up 11 hits.
The over is 7-1-1 in the Braves last nine road games. The Braves are 7-2 in their last nine road games. The Braves are 10-4 in their last 14 interleague games. The over is 10-1 in the Orioles last 11 interleague games. The Braves are 1-8 in their last nine meetings against the Orioles.
The O’s offense has struggled and even with Cole Hamels making his first start, they are going to have trouble getting to him. Back the Braves to win this game on the run line.
Shane’s Pick Braves -1.5
