The Pittsburgh Pirates face the Cincinnati Reds on Monday, September 14th at Great American Ballpark for game two of a doubleheader.
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds are set to participate in one of three doubleheaders in Major League Baseball on Monday. The Pirates and Reds will finish up their season series at the beginning of this week, as they are set to play four games in three days. The Pirates wrapped up their series with the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, and things did not go well for the Buckos. The Royals took down the Pirates by the final score of 11-0. The Pirates are now 14-30, which is still good for last place in the entire league. The Pirates are obviously in a complete rebuild, and that is the biggest reason they have struggled in 2020.
The Reds finished their series with the Cardinals on Sunday, as Cincinnati earned a very important 10-5 win over St. Louis in that game. Cincinnati is now six games under .500 at 20-26 on the year, which puts the team in fourth place in the NL Central. The Reds still have a slim postseason chance this season, but the team will need to win three games in this four-game series to really have a shot. The Reds cannot lose games against very feasible opponents like the Pirates if they want a chance for postseason baseball.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are projected to bring right-hander Mitch Keller to the mound to face the Reds. Keller is 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA through his first 7.2 innings of the season. It is still a bit unclear if Keller is 100% getting the start in this game, but as of now, he is the projected starter for Pittsburgh in game two. Keller has not pitched since August 1st.
The Cincinnati Reds are projected to send right-hander Anthony DeSclafani to the bump for game two of this doubleheader. DeSclafani is 1-2 with a 7.20 ERA through his first 25.0 innings of the season with the Reds.
The line has not yet been released for this game due to the uncertainties regarding the starting pitchers and lineups. If this is the matchup we see in game two of the doubleheader, I will take the Reds on the money line. As stated before, games like these are so important for the Reds. I think Cincinnati gets to a rusty Keller early in this one, and I like the Reds to pull out a win in game two.
