The Philadelphia Phillies face the Miami Marlins on Monday, September 14th at Marlins Park for game seven of a seven-game series.
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins have seen a lot of each other recently, as this will be their seventh game played this week. The Miami Marlins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the final scores of 8-1 and 2-1 in a doubleheader on Sunday. The Marlins are back over .500 at 23-21 with the wins, as they have taken over sole possession of second place in the NL East. The Marlins pitching staff was elite in the two games on Sunday, allowing two runs combined in the two games. The Phillies only had a combined seven hits in the games, which is very unlike them this season. The Phillies are now in third place in the NL East with a 23-22 record this season. Philadelphia and Miami will play in their final game of the season series on Monday, and the Marlins currently lead the series 6-3. Whoever wins on Monday will be in second place in the division standings.
The Philadelphia Phillies are set to bring right-hander Vince Velasquez to the mound to face the Marlins. Velasquez is 0-0 with a 5.85 ERA through his first 20.0 innings of the season with the Phillies. Velasquez has pitched as a starter and as a long-reliever in 2020, so his role in this game is a bit unclear.
The Miami Marlins will bring right-hander Pablo Lopez to the bump for Monday's contest. Lopez is 3-4 with a 4.50 ERA through his first 40.0 innings of the season with the Marlins. Lopez is coming off his worst outing of the season. Lopez allowed seven earned runs through 1.2 innings against the Braves in an eventual 29-9 loss to Atlanta. Lopez had a great start to the season for Miami, but he has struggled badly as of late.
The line has not yet been released, so be sure to check back soon for updates regarding the odds. I will take the over in this game, as I expect both teams to score a bunch early and often in this one. Lopez and Velasquez will most likely not last long in this game, and I think the long ball will be a big part of that.
