The St Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds face off on Sunday in a National League Central showdown at Busch Stadium. After the Reds won the first game of this series the Cardinals found some success in game two coming away with a 7-1 victory.
The Reds were buyers at the trade deadline and at this point it looks like that was a mistake. Coming into this game they have lost two of their last three games and the one win during that stretch was on Friday, a game they scored only three runs in. Nick Castellanos and Eugenio Suarez have been the best players this season driving in 28 RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Cardinals who have been up down this season and this is a squad that really needed a sweep in this series, but the one thing they can’t do is lose this game. The biggest issue for this team has been offensive inconsistency. On Saturday they did put up seven runs and they need the offense to be strong again in this game.
Tyler Mahle will get the start for the Reds and coming into this game he sits with a 1-2 record and an ERA of 3.89.
Carlos Martinez will get the start for the Cardinals and coming into this game he has had some issues and he currently sits with an 0-2 record and an ERA of 12.27.
The under is 7-1 in the Reds last eight games as an underdog. The under is 18-7-2 in the Cardinals last 27 games played on Sunday. The over is 8-2 in Martinez’s last 10 starts on grass. The under is 5-2-1 in Martinez’s last eight starts against the Reds. The Reds are 3-7 in their last ten meetings against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
Martinez hasn’t been good this year and there is no reason to believe it’s going to be different in this game. Look for the Reds offense to find success in this game and that will be the difference in this game. Back the Reds to win this game on the money line.
