The Oakland Athletics face the Texas Rangers on Friday, September 11th at Globe Life Field for game one of a four-game series.
The Athletics and Rangers will play four games in three days against each other, with a scheduled doubleheader on Saturday. The Athletics just ended their series with the Houston Astros on Thursday. The Athletics took down the Astros yet again, this time by the final score of 3-1 at home. Oakland has dominated Houston in the season series, and it has helped the team hold a sizable lead in the AL West. The Athletics are 12 games above .500 at 27-15 and are 6.5 games ahead of the Astros for first place in the division standings.
The Texas Rangers wrapped up their series with the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday as well. The Rangers dropped that game to a hot Dylan Bundy and company by the final score of 6-2. The Rangers are now 13 games under .500 at 15-28. Texas is in sole possession of last place in the AL West, as it has not been a good year for Texas. The Rangers will look to play the role of spoiler in this four-game series against the red-hot Athletics.
The Oakland Athletics are set to bring right-hander Mike Fiers to the mound to face the Rangers. Fiers is 4-2 with a 4.93 ERA through his first 42.0 innings of the season with the Athletics. Fiers allowed three earned runs through 5.0 innings in his last start against the Padres.
The Texas Rangers will send right-hander Jordan Lyles to the bump for Friday's game. Lyles is 1-4 with an 8.07 ERA through his first 35.2 innings of the season with the Rangers. Lyles allowed four earned runs through 6.1 innings in his last outing against the Mariners in a 4-3 Rangers loss.
The Athletics are not as big of favorites as you would think in this game, and that is because Fiers is on the mound. I think Fiers can do enough for the Athletics to win this game easily, and I will take the Athletics on the run line here.
