The Baltimore Orioles face the New York Yankees on Friday, September 11th at Yankee Stadium for game two of a doubleheader.
The Orioles and Yankees will meet in yet another doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Game one of this series was scheduled for Thursday, but the weather had other plans and now we are set for two games on Friday. The Orioles just finished up their two-game series with the Mets on Wednesday, as the O's split the set. The Orioles are currently 20-22 and are only 1.5 games behind the Yankees for the last wild card spot in the American League. The Orioles have been a surprise to many this season, but Baltimore is not content with just a decent season. This team believes it can make the postseason, and this doubleheader will be crucial for the O's and their chances.
The Yankees finally got back into the win column when they took down the Blue Jays by the final score of 7-2. Gleyber Torres hit a solo home run for the Bronx Bombers, and for the first time in a while, the Yankees felt good. The Yanks will now host this series with Baltimore, and it does not get any more important for the Yanks. A doubleheader sweep for the Yankees would give them a 3.5 cushion in that second wild-card spot, and it would also push them closer to the Blue Jays and Rays in the AL East standings.
The Baltimore Orioles are projected to bring left-hander Keegan Akin to the mound to face the Yankees in game two of the doubleheader. Akin is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA through his first 13.0 innings of the season with the Orioles. Akin just tossed 5.1 shutout innings against these Yankees on September 5th in a 6-1 Orioles win.
The New York Yankees are projected to send right-hander Masahiro Tanka to the bump for game two. Tanaka is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA through his first 32.0 innings of the season. Tanaka allowed two earned runs and four runs total to the Orioles in his last outing.
The line has not yet been released for this game, and it will most likely be out much closer to game time. I think the Yankees can sweep this doubleheader series with Cole and Tanaka starting at home, so I will take the Yankees on the money line in game two of the doubleheader.
