The Detroit Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Thursday in a doubleheader at Busch Stadium. This preview is for game two and since it’s a doubleheader there will only be seven innings played.
The Tigers have been up and down this season and their last two games have been a perfect example of their season. Two games ago against the Tigers they pulled off the big upset of the Brewers, but on Wednesday they really struggled overall and that led to a 19-0 defeat. Two games ago the star of the show for the Tigers was Jeimer Candelario who drove in four runs. In this game the offense needs to find a way to have success because run support will probably be needed.
On the other side of this matchup is the St. Louis Cardinals who are playing in a lot of doubleheaders because of the COVID situation that happened earlier this season. Coming into this game there has been some struggles having lost two of the last three games. The one win during that stretch was in their last game, a game where they still only scored five runs. In that game five different players drove in one run.
The Tigers are 6-20 in their last 26 games played on Thursday. The Tigers are 19-46 in their last 64 road games. The over is 6-1-1 in the Cardinals last eight games played on Thursday. The over is 6-1-1 in the Cardinals last eight interleague games. The TIgers are 3-7 in their last 10 meetings in St. Louis.
Jordan Zimmerman will get the start for Tigers and he will be making his first start of the year after being injured. There has to be some questions about how long he will go in this game.
Austin Gomber will get the start for the Cardinals and he has been good this year. Even though he has a 0-0 record he has pitched 14 innings giving up only one run total.
Gomber has been lights out this season and there is no reason he won’t be able to shutdown a TIgers offense that struggled in the last game. Look for the Cardinals to win this game on the run line.
Shane’s Pick Cardinals -1.5
