The Colorado Rockies face the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, September 9th at Petco Park for game three of a three-game series.
The San Diego Padres dismantled the Colorado Rockies by the final score of 14-5 on Tuesday night in game two of this series. The Rockies got off to a hot start in this game, as Nolan Arenado hit a three-run home run to give Colorado a 3-0 lead at the end of the top of the first. Unfortunately for Arenado and the Rockies, the Padres responded in a big way. The Padres would score five runs in the bottom of the first and five more in the second to open a 10-3 lead after two innings. Wil Myers hit yet another San Diego grand slam in the first inning, and he would add another solo home run in the seventh for good measure. The San Diego Padres are now ten games above .500 at 27-17, while the Rockies are two games under .500 at 20-22. The Padres have been great at home this season, as they own a 14-6 record at Petco Park.
The Colorado Rockies are set to bring right-hander Antonio Senzatela to the mound to face the Padres. Senzatela is 3-1 with a 3.33 ERA through his first 48.2 innings of the season with the Rockies. Senzatela allowed two earned runs through 5.1 innings in his last start against the Dodgers on September 4th.
The San Diego Padres will send right-hander Zach Davies to the bump for Wednesday's game. Davies is 6-2 with a 2.23 ERA through his first 48.1 innings of the season with the Padres. Davies has been a special surprise for the Padres this season, and he has not allowed an earned run in his last 12.2 innings.
Plenty of runs were scored on Tuesday night at Petco Park, but I expect more of a pitchers duel on Wednesday. Davies has been incredible as of late and this entire season, and I think he can keep the Rockies in check for a majority of this one. I also think Senzatela will perform well on the road for the Rockies. I will take the under 8.5 in this one.
