The Texas Rangers face the Seattle Mariners on Monday, September 7th at T-Mobile Park for game four of a four-game series.
The Seattle Mariners defeated the Texas Rangers by the final score of 4-3 on Sunday in game three of this series. Although the score was only 4-3, it was a home run palooza in Seattle. Kyle Seager, Kyle Lewis, Leody Taveras, Joey Gallo, and Ronald Guzman all hit long balls on Sunday. The Mariners only had four hits in the game, but that was enough to take down the Rangers for the 7th time this season. The Mariners are now only four games under .500 at 18-22, as the M's have played really sound baseball recently. Seattle has now won five straight games and all of which came against AL West opponents. The Texas Rangers run the risk of being swept in this four-game series if they cannot pull out a win on Monday. Texas is now 13-26 on the year, which has the team in sole possession of dead last in the AL West standings.
The Texas Rangers are set to bring left-hander Kolby Allard to the mound to face the Mariners. Allard is 0-4 with a 5.40 ERA through his first 25.0 innings of the season with the Rangers. Allard allowed two earned through 7.0 innings in his most recent outing against the Astros.
The Seattle Mariners will send left-hander Marco Gonzales to the bump for Monday's contest. Gonzales is 4-2 with a 3.09 ERA through his first 43.2 innings of the season with the Mariners. Gonzales was excellent in his last start against the Angels, as he tossed a complete game while allowing only one earned run and striking out eight batters. It was certainly Gonzales' best start of the year, and he will look to build on such an effective outing.
The Mariners own a 7-2 lead in the season series over the Rangers this year, and I think the Mariners add to that lead on Monday. I will take the Mariners to take down the Rangers at home with the sharper pitcher and the hotter ballclub overall.
