The Texas Rangers face the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, September 5th at T-Mobile Park for game two of a four-game series.
The Seattle Mariners defeated the Texas Rangers by the final score of 6-3 on Friday night. Yusei Kikuchi had one of his best performances of the season in that game, as he tossed 6.0 innings while allowing only one earned run and striking out seven batters along the way. After a three-run eighth inning by the Mariners to extend their lead to 6-1, the Rangers were able to show some life in the ninth by scoring two runs and cutting the deficit to 6-3. Unfortunately for Texas, that would be the extent of their comeback and the Mariners held on for their 16th win of the year. The Mariners have won three straight games and are now an even 8-8 at home this season. The Rangers are now 13-24 on the year which has them in fourth place in the AL West. The Rangers are 4-14 on the road this season, which is among the league's worst records away from home.
The Texas Rangers are set to bring right-hander Kyle Gibson to the mound to face the Angels. Gibson is 1-4 with a 6.16 ERA through his first 38.0 innings of the season with the Rangers. Gibson has been downright awful recently, as he has allowed 17 earned runs through his last 16.1 innings. In his last start against the Mariners, Gibson allowed nine hits and four earned runs through 4.1 innings.
The Seattle Mariners will send left-hander Justus Sheffield to the bump for Saturday's game. Sheffield is 2-3 with a 4.75 ERA through his first 30.1 innings of the season with the Mariners. Sheffield allowed six earned runs through 4.2 innings in his most recent outing against the Angels.
The last time the Mariners took on the Rangers with Justus Sheffield on the bump, the M's would go on to win 10-1. I like Seattle to win this game as well, moving their current win streak to four games. Seattle leads the season series 5-2 over the Rangers in 2020, and I like them to extend that lead on Saturday.
