The St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs face off on Saturday in a doubleheader at Wrigley Field. This preview is for game one, and since it’s a doubleheader, this game will only be seven innings long. In the first game of this series it was the Cubs that came out on top.
The St. Louis Cardinals have had their issues this season and the offense has really let them down. The pitching staff wasn’t bad in game one, but the Cardinals could only manage two hits and one run, and that led to the loss. Over the last two games the Cardinals have scored only four runs total. Brad Miller has been the best offensive player for the Cardinals hitting five home runs and driving in 19 RBI’s. If they want to win this game, the Cardinals need the offense to be better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Cubs who’s offense has scored at least eight runs in three of the last five games. Over the last two games though, the Cubs have only scored six runs total. Against right handed pitchers the Cubs are averaging .237 which doesn’t sound impressive, but it’s much better than the .158 they are hitting against left handed batters. Ian Happ is the best offensive player for the Cubs hitting ten home runs and driving in 22 RBI’s.
Adam Wainwright will get the start for the Cardinals and coming into this game he sits with a 3-0 record and an ERA of 2.85.
The Cardinals are 37-15 in their last 52 games played on Saturday in a game that Wainwright starts in. The over is 7-2 in the Cubs last nine games played on Saturday. The over is 6-2 in the last eight meetings between the Cardinals and Cubs. The over is 17-5-1 in the last 23 meetings between these two teams played in Chicago.
Adam Wainwright has been good this season and that will continue in this game. Look for a low scoring game where both teams struggle to score that is going to lead to the under cashing. It’s also a lean to the Cardinals on the money line.
