The Miami Marlins face the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday, September 4th at Tropicana Field for game one of a three-game series.
The Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins have already played three games against each other this season, and the Rays took all three of those games on the road. The Rays are on a roll, as they are the best team in the AL East currently and have a 5.0 game lead over the Yankees and Blue Jays behind them. The Rays have won four of their last five games overall, as they are 14 games above .500 at 26-12. The Miami Marlins have surprised many with their play in 2020. After a rough 2019 season, Miami finds itself at 16-16 past the halfway mark of the 2020 campaign. The Marlins have won two of their last three games heading into this very important series with their inner-state rivals. A series win for the Marlins and they are over .500 with about 20 games left on their schedule.
The Miami Marlins are set to send right-hander Pablo Lopez to the mound to face the Rays. Lopez is 3-2 with a 2.10 ERA through his first 34.1 innings of the season with the Marlins. Lopez is coming off a quality start against the Rays in which he allowed only two earned runs through 7.0 innings.
The Tampa Bay Rays will bring left-hander Josh Fleming to the bump for Friday's contest. Fleming is 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA through his first 10.1 innings of the season. Fleming tossed 5.1 shutout innings in his last outing against the Marlins on August 29th on the road.
Although Tampa Bay has been incredible recently, I am going to take a shot with the road dog in this spot. Pablo Lopez has been the sharpest pitcher for the Marlins this year, and I think getting him at plus money is a spot I cannot pass up. The Marlins have surprised many teams this year, and I think the fish may be able to steal one from Tampa on Friday. I will take the Marlins on the money line.
