The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros face off on Thursday in an American League West showdown at MintuteMaid Park. Each team has won a game in this series and each of the games was decided by only a run.
The Rangers offense has been an issue all season and it let them down again in last game with the offense only managing run. In two of the last three games the offense has scored two runs or less, and scoring isn’t going to get an easier in this game. Joey Gallo has been the best offensive player this season for the Rangers hitting seven home runs and driving 16 RBI’s.
On the other side of this matchup is the Houston Astros who got off to a bit of a slow start to the season but they have turned it around as of late and the hope is that strong type of play will continue. The Astros have won three of the last four games, and even though they have won, this is an offense that hasn’t been as strong. Kyle Tucker will get the start for the Astros and coming into this game he has hit six home runs and driven in 29 RBI’s.
Lance Lynn will get the start for the Rangers and it was a bit of a surprise that he wasn’t traded before the trade deadline. On the season Lynn has a 4-1 record and an ERA of 1.93.
On the mound for the Astros will be Zack Greinke who comes into this game with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 2.68. In Greinke’s last start he went five innings giving up six hits and three earned runs.
The Rangers are 3-12 in their last 15 games overall. The Rangers are 3-10 in their last 13 games as an underdog. The Astros are 12-5 in their last 17 games overall. The Rangers are 1-9 in their last 10 meetings in Houston. The Rangers are 1-7 in the last eight meetings against the Astros.
These are two pitchers who have been good this year and that will continue in this game. Look for both teams to struggle to score and that is going to lead to a low scoring game.
