The New York Yankees and New York Mets face off on Thursday in a big-time rivalry game at Citi Field. These two squads have faced off five times so far this year and the Yankees were able to win three of the games.
The Yankees are coming off a loss and they will be without their closer for this game after he threw at the head of a Rays player on Tuesday. The Yankees were able to win only one of the games against the Rays in the last series and the offense wasn’t great during the series. Over the three games, they only scored ten runs. Clint Frazier and DJ LeMathieu both drove in a run in the last game.
On the other side of this matchup is the New York Mets who had lost three games in a row before winning their last game against the Baltimore Orioles. Michael Conforto was the star of the show against the Orioles on Wednesday having four hits, a home run, and five RBI’s. Dominic Smith has been the best player for the Mets hitting seven home runs and driving in 26 RBI’s. In this game the Mets are going to need to run up the score or there are going to be some issues for this team as they try to get a win on what was supposed to be an off day.
On the mound for the Yankees will be J.A. Happ who has been up and down this season sitting with a 1-1 record and an ERA of 4.05. Happ’s last game was against the Mets and in that game he was lights out going 7.1 innings giving up three hits and zero runs.
The Yankees are 16-4 in Happ’s last 20 road starts. The Yankees are 111-53 in their 164 games played on grass. The under is 7-3-1 in the Mets last 11 games played on Thursday. The under is 15-7-1 in the Mets last 23 interleague games. The Yankees are 9-4 in their last 13 meetings in New York.
Happ hasn’t been great this season and this is a chance for the Mets to run up the score. Look for the Mets to run up the score and this game will go over the total.
