The Arizona Diamondbacks face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, September 3rd at Dodger Stadium for game three of a three-game series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers took down the Arizona Diamondbacks in walk-off fashion on Wednesday night by the final score of 3-2. The Dodgers have taken both games of this series thus far, and on Wednesday night it took extra innings. The Diamondbacks were able to score one run in the top of the tenth to make it 2-1 Arizona, but one run would not cut it. The Dodgers won the game on a walk-off RBI single by Will Smith to earn their league-best 28th win of the season. The Dodgers remain the best team in baseball and are 5.0 games ahead of the Padres in the NL West. The Diamondbacks are now 14-23 on the year and are in last place in the division standings.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to bring right-hander Luke Weaver to the mound to face the Dodgers. Weaver is 1-5 with an 8.23 ERA through his first 27.1 innings of the season. Weaver allowed three earned runs through 3.0 innings against the San Francisco Giants in his last start. Weaver has struggled mightily all season long, and it will not get any easier when he has to face this locked and loaded Dodgers' lineup.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will send left-hander Clayton Kershaw to the bump for Thursday's game. Kershaw is 4-1 with a 1.80 ERA through his first 30.0 innings of the season with the Dodgers. Kershaw is having yet another stellar regular season with the Dodgers in 2020, and in his last start, he tossed 6.0 shutout innings against the Giants.
The Dodgers are heavy favorites at home in this one, and for good reason. I see the Dodgers winning this game easily, with Kershaw tossing yet another quality start and Luke Weaver making another early exit. The Dodgers have too much firepower in their lineup for Weaver to be mediocre in this game, and I think Los Angeles will take advantage of Weaver's struggles on Thursday night. I will lay the 1.5 runs on the run line with the Dodgers.
