The Toronto Blue Jays face the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, September 2nd at Marlins Park for game two of a two-game series.
The Miami Marlins took down the Toronto Blue Jays by the final score of 3-2 on Tuesday night in Miami. Starling Marte, the newest member of the Miami Marlins via the Arizona Diamondbacks at the trade deadline, was the hero for the fish in that game. Marte hit a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead in the very late going. The Marlins would hold on for a very important and memorable victory. With the win, the Marlins are back over .500 at 16-15 on the year, which puts them 3.0 games behind the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East. The Toronto Blue Jays have now lost back-to-back games, which puts them at 18-16 on the year. The Blue Jays are currently in third place in the AL East, and they 2.0 games behind the Yankees and 5.5 games behind the Rays in the division standings.
The Toronto Blue Jays will send left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu to the mound to face the Marlins. Ryu is 2-1 with a 2.92 ERA through his first 37.0 innings of the season with the Blue Jays. Ryu allowed one earned run through 6.0 innings against the Baltimore Orioles in his last start on August 28th.
The Miami Marlins are set to bring right-hander Sixto Sanchez to the bump for Wednesday's game. Sanchez is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA through his first 12.0 innings of the season with the Marlins. Sanchez pitched 7.0 very sharp innings against the Tampa Bay Rays in his last outing, striking out 10 batters and not allowing a single run. Sanchez is one of many young and exciting players the Marlins have to offer.
In the final game between the Blue Jays and Marlins in this season series, I am going to take the home underdogs in the Miami Marlins. Sixto Sanchez has fantastic stuff, and I think he can do enough in this game to give his team a great shot to win. Ryu will most likely pitch well in this game also, but with +130 odds on the Marlins, Miami is the play for me.
