The Tampa Bay Rays face the New York Yankees on Monday, August 31st at Yankee Stadium for game one of a three-game series.
The Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees will play in their final game three-game series of the season to start the week.
The Rays have been on an absolute tear as of late, as the team has now won five straight games overall. The Rays took down the Marlins by the final score of 12-7 on Sunday. That win gave the Rays a three-game road sweep over their in-state rivals. The Rays are now 24-11 and in first place in the AL East, as they lead the New York Yankees by 3.5 games in the standings. The Rays pitching staff has been excellent recently, as other than Sunday's game, the Rays allowed three runs or less in their last four games.
The Yankees earned a crucial two-game sweep of a doubleheader over their cross-city rivals in the New York Mets. The Yankees walked it off in game one of the doubleheader after an incredible seventh-inning comeback performance. The Mets had a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh, but the Yanks scored five runs to tie the game and force extra innings. The Yankees would win the game on a Gio Urshela RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. In game two of their doubleheader, the Yankees and Mets went to extras again. This time, in the top of the eighth (as the Yankees were the road team), Gary Sanchez hit a grand slam to take a 5-1 lead. The final score was 5-2 in that game, and the Yankees are now 19-13.
The Tampa Bay Rays are set to bring right-hander Tyler Glasnow to the mound to face the Yankees. Glasnow is 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA through his first 28.0 innings of the season. Glasnow allowed two earned runs while striking out 13 in his last outing against the Orioles.
The New York Yankees will send their ace in right-hander Gerrit Cole to the bump. Cole is 4-1 with a 3.51 ERA through his first 41.0 innings of the season. Cole allowed five earned runs in 5.0 innings against the Braves in his most recent start.
The Rays have totally owned the Yankees this season, holding a 6-1 season series lead thus far. I like both pitchers to attack the opposition in this one, with the strikeouts coming in bunches from both sides. I will take the under 7.5 here.
