The Tampa Bay Rays face the Miami Marlins on Saturday, August 29th at Marlins Park for game two of a three-game series.
The Tampa Bay Rays shutout the Miami Marlins by the final score of 2-0 in game one of the series on Friday. Ryan Yarbrough pitched well for the Rays, as he only allowed four hits through 6.2 innings while not allowing a single run. The Marlins' starter in Sixto Sanchez also pitched very well, as he tossed 7.0 shutout innings while striking out 10 batters. The Rays would score a run in the top of the eighth and another in the top of the ninth off of two RBI singles. The Rays are now winners of three straight, as they improved their record to 22-11. The Rays now lead the New York Yankees by 4.0 games in the AL East standings, as the Yanks have lost seven games in a row. The Marlins are only one game above .500 at 14-13, which is still good for second place in the NL East behind the Atlanta Braves.
The Tampa Bay Rays are set to bring left-hander Josh Fleming to the mound to face the Marlins. Fleming is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA through his first 5.0 innings of the season with the Rays. Fleming made his season debut with the Rays on August 23rd against the Blue Jays, and he allowed two earned runs through 5.0 innings for Tampa Bay.
The Miami Marlins will send right-hander Pablo Lopez to the bump for Saturday's game. Lopez is 3-1 with a 1.98 ERA through his first 27.1 innings of the season with the Marlins. Lopez did not allow an earned run in his last start against the Nationals, but he did allow three unearned runs in an eventual 11-8 win for the fish.
The line has not been released yet, so check back soon for updates regarding the odds. In game two of this series, I am going to take the under. I liked the way Fleming pitched in his season debut, and I trust him and the Rays' staff to keep this game competitive and low-scoring. Lopez has been phenomenal for Miami this season, so I think the best play here is on the under.
