The Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers will match up on the MLB diamond for Game 5 of their NLDS on Wednesday.
This has been a back-and-forth battle so far, with both teams alternating victories. The Dodgers won Games 1 (6-0) and 3 (10-4), and Washington responded after each one with wins in Friday’s Game 2 (4-2) and Monday’s Game 4 (6-1). Now the series shifts back to Dodger Stadium for a winner-take-all matchup.
For Game 5, the Nationals will send out Stephen Strasburg in the start. Over 209.0 innings and an 18-6 record this year, Strasburg posted a 3.32 ERA with 251 Ks and 56 BBs.
Over on the Dodgers’ side, they’re going with Walker Buehler in the start in Game 5. Across 182.1 innings and a 14.4 mark this season, Buehler put up a 3.26 ERA with 215 Ks and 37 BBs.
The Nationals are 8-2 in their last 10 after a win and 11-5 in their last 16 after an off day. Washington is 35-16 in their last 51 overall and 88-35 in Strasburg’s last 123 starts.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 7-2 in their last nine Wednesday games and 54-24 in their last 27 after an off day. LA is 2-6 in their last eight in game five of a series and 7-1 in Buehler’s last eight starts.
Strasburg is carrying a sweet 0.64 postseason ERA right now, and held the Dodgers to just one run over six innings of work alongside 10 strikeouts in Game 2 of this NLDS. He didn’t issue a walk either.
As for Buehler, he’s on full rest here and played well in Game 1, allowing just one hit over six innings of work. He hasn’t given up a run over 16.2 consecutive innings in the playoffs.
This one should be a pretty epic battle, considering the way this series is going. Strasburg and Buehler should both be on point, so this one is going to come down to bullpens. I’m leaning toward the Dodgers in a tight one.
