The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Nationals will match up in NLDS Game 3 action on Sunday.
In Game 1 of this series on Thursday, the Dodgers got the early lead with a 6-0 shutout victory. On Friday, the Nationals struck back and evened things up with a 4-2 win of their own.
For the Sunday game, the Dodgers will send out Hyun-Jin Ryu to start. Across his 182.2 innings and 14-5 record this year, Ryu posted a 2.32 ERA with 163 Ks and 24 BBs.
Over on the Nationals’ side, it’s looking like they’re still going with Max Scherzer in Game 3. Scherzer went 172.1 innings this year with a 11-7 record, a 2.92 ERA, 243 Ks and 33 walks.
The Dodgers are 7-0 in their last seven road games and 9-2 in their last 11 Divisional Playoff games. LA is 60-24 in their last 84 in game three of a series and 38-18 in their last 56 overall.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 8-1 in their last nine after a win and 7-1 in their last eight Sunday games. Washington is 37-17 in the last 54 overall and 35-17 in their last 52 in game three of a series.
Ryu ended the regular season on a nice run, with three straight quality starts and a 2-0 record in that span. During that trio Ryu gave up just three combined earned in 21.0 innings on 13 hits.
Washington unexpectedly put Scherzer in for an inning of relief in Game 2 (he struck out all three batters he faced) but he should be good to go here since he only threw 14 pitches. The Nats may have a few more tricks up their sleeve, but ultimately I think their sketchy bullpen will seal their fate. I’m going Dodgers.
