The St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves will match up in Game 2 of their MLB National League Division Series Friday.

In the Thursday Game 1 of this set, we had a pretty crazy one. The Braves had a 3-1 advantage heading into the eighth before the Cardinals scored six runs in the final two frames. Atlanta posted three in the bottom of the ninth but St. Louis was able to hold on for a 7-6 victory.

For Friday’s game two, the Cardinals are sending out Jack Flaherty for the start. Across his 196.1 innings and 11-8 record this year, Flaherty had a 2.75 ERA with 231 Ks and 55 walks.

Over on the Braves’ side, they’re going with Mike Foltynewicz in the Game 2 start. This season in 117.0 innings across an 8-6 record, Foltynewicz posted a 4.54 ERA with 105 Ks and 37 BBs.

The Cardinals are 7-2 in their last nine Friday games and 1-5 in their last six in game two of a series. St. Louis is 10-4 in Flaherty’s last 14 starts and 2-5 in his last seven in game two of series.

Meanwhile, the Braves are 21-7 in their last 28 in game two of a series and 21-8 in their last 29 Friday games. Atlanta is 5-0 in Foltynewicz’s last five home starts and 11-1 in his last 12 on grass.

Foltynewicz finished off the season with a bang, tossing eight consecutive quality starts. In that span, he gave up three earned just once and had a clean zero earned five times.

As for Foltynewicz, he had three straight quality starts going before a short outing his last appearance in a loss (three earned; 4.0 innings) but he’s been really great since about mid-August.

Still, I like Foltynewicz a little better here and I think he can put the Cards in a good spot to win.
