We head to San Diego for the fourth event of the 2024 PGA Tour in what will be the Farmers Insurance Open. This tournament was established in 1952 and will be played at the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Here are 5 golfers to consider betting on this week.
Max Homa, +1200
It’s hard not to mention Max Homa when talking about who can win this week. Homa is the defending champion of the Farmers Insurance Open, and he’s a California native who has seen 4 of his 6 PGA victories come in his home state. In 7 trips at Torrey Pines Golf Course, Homa has 3 top-25 finishes. Also, 9 of the winners at the Farmers Insurance Open since 2000 have been golfers who have won the event previously. Homa should be in the running this week.
Ludvig Aberg, +2000
This is a rather cheap price for somebody who has never played Torrey Pines, but we’re banking on his showings from last year. Ludvig Aberg finished last season first in total driving and second in strokes gained off the tee. Aberg was sixth in driving distance and third in greens in regulation percentage. You can argue nobody is hitting the ball on tour better than Aberg right now, and the long holes should give him an advantage. You’d like some experience in your pocket, but Aberg is still a real threat to win this weekend.
Sepp Straka, +5000
Sepp Straka had a quality showing at The Sentry and should be able to build on that this week. Straka has 4 appearances at the Farmers Insurance Open and made the cut 3 times while racking up 2 top-25 finishes. Straka finished 25th last year in total driving and 33rd in driving accuracy percentage. Straka has success on this course and fits the profile of a quality driver to push the rest of the field. Straka and these odds may be the best value bet on the board.
Taylor Pendrith, +12000
If you’re looking for a big long shot with a potential massive payout, Taylor Pendrith is worth a look. Pendrith had a top-20 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2022, and he hits the ball well, which benefits him on a long and potentially wet course. Pendrith was 30th in driving distance last year and 52nd in driving efficiency. Pendrith does have issues putting at times and that could prevent him from snagging his first win, but his long game gives him a punchers chance and makes these long odds worth a look.
Joseph Bramlett, +30000
As we dig even deeper on the card, Joseph Bramlett should catch your eye at this onset price. While no wins yet at 35 years old, Bramlett has played the Farmers Insurance Open 5 times, made the cut 4 times and has a pair of top-25 finishes. He’s made the cut here in each of his last 4 appearances. Bramlett is also a monster off the tee, as he was 18th in driving distance last year and 11th in club head speed. Like Pendrith, if Bramlett can sink a couple of putts, he’s going to give these odds a run for its money. We’ve seen some long shots cash already this season. Bramlett could be next.
