The Sentry: Third Round Matchup Bets, Predictions, Odds 1/6/24
This Saturday, the PGA Tour presents golf bettors with the third round of the 2024 Sentry.
Before I dive into my favorite third round matchup bets for the 2024 Sentry let's take a quick look at the current top five leaders in third round scoring average on the PGA Tour (in this week's tournament's field) and the key player statistics that I feel are the most vital to a golfer's success at this week's PGA Tour event.
Top Five Golfers in Third Round Scoring Average
The key player statistics that I will be focusing on this week are strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained tee to green, GIR (greens in regulation), and strokes gained putting.
Now that we have identified who the current leaders in third round scoring average are on the PGA Tour (in this week's field) and reviewed the key player statistics that I feel are the most important to a golfer's success this week let's turn our attention to my favorite matchup bets for the third round of the 2024 Sentry.
Max Homa -155 over Sam Burns
Max Homa arrives at this week's season opening event in rather good form. More specifically, Max Homa has accumulated six consecutive top 13 finishes (DP World and PGA Tours combined), including a win at the 2023 Nedbank Challenge in November.
I also like the fact that I know Max Homa has posted an outstanding result at this week's PGA Tour event in the past. Max Homa finished third at the 2023 Sentry.
Patrick Cantlay -180 over Adam Hadwin
Since the beginning of April, Patrick Cantlay has played 12 tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those 12 events just mentioned, Patrick Cantlay has accumulated eight top 15 finishes, including a second place result at the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship in August.
Similar to Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay has also played well at the Plantation Course previously. Cantlay finished fourth at the 2022 Sentry.
In summary, I am backing Patrick Cantlay to defeat Adam Hadwin in this third round matchup at odds of -180.
