Hi Everyone!
It wasn’t our strongest FanDuel week for PGA last week, but we did at least cash in our 50/50’s at the Workday Charity Open and we’re looking to continue our recent overall success at the loaded Memorial Tournament that starts at 7:00am this Thursday.
The PGA will once again tee it up at the historic Muirfield Village which is a Par 72 and plays about 7,400 yards. The course setup is sounds like it is going to be a bit more difficult this week as with little to no rain in Dublin, OH this week, the greens are going to be running fast. Also, it looks like they’re not cutting the rough as low so finding the fairway off the tee is important this week.
Similar to last week, we’re going to be targeting players who have strong SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Approach games.
As for the weather, it mostly looks good however, there is about a 50% - 60% chance of thunderstorms on Thursday and I think there is going to be a bit of an advantage of rostering the AM players as it looks like the wind is going to pick up and be around 15mph for the afternoon groups. I’m going to actually target all AM players this week.
Let’s take a look at our FanDuel lineup:
DON’T FORGET TO CHECK OUT OUR DRAFTKINGS LINEUP FOR THE MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT!!!
Kicking off our lineups, were going to right back to our big two players from last week in Patrick Cantlay & Hideki Matsuyama.
Cantlay is the defending champion at the Memorial Tournament and even with a slow start last week, still finished a strong T-7. Cantlay went positive in all strong-gained categories last week with an impressive +1.98 SG: Tee-to-Green & +0.95 SG: Approach. Cantlay shot an impressive 65 in Round 4 last Sunday and I think he comes out strong this week and will contend to repeat for the Memorial title.
Hideki Matsuyama got off to a nice start for us last week, although struggled over the week with rounds of 72 & 73. Matsuyama has the type of game we are looking to target, and I think he can put four good rounds of golf this week after finishing with a +2.25 SG: Tee-to-Green & +1.39 SG: Approach. Matsuyama is a great value at just $10,900 and as has an early tee time, I think he gets off to another hot start this week.
Abraham Ancer is our one golfer that didn’t tee it up last week, but I’m not concerned with his form as Ancer has been lights out since the PGA returned finishing his last three events with a T-11, 2nd, and T-14th. Ancer ranks 11th overall in both SG: Approach & SG: Tee-to-Green and I think we see another strong showing from him this week.
Jason Day is always going to me nervous when I roster him, however, Day started to look like the golfer of old last week after finishing the Workday Charity Open with an impressive -11 (T-7th). Muirfield is a tough course, however, this is Day’s home course, so you know he knows the layout as good as anyone he went positive in both SG: Tee-to-Green (+1.55) & SG: Approach +0.14 last week.
Kevin Streelman is a streaky golfer and only has made 8 of 18 cuts this season, but he seems on a roll as of late and has been outstanding lately at Muirfield Village, finishing T-7th last week and 4th last year at the Memorial Tournament. Streelman was +1.17 in SG: Tee-to-Green & +0.98 SG: Approach last week and I think he is one of the better values on the slate.
Rounding out the team, I am going with my guy in Keegan Bradley. As you know, I don’t put Keegan in my “Main” lineups unless there is a good reason to do so and we certainly have that reason this week despite his poor showing last year at the Memorial. Keegan led by a wide margin when it came to SG: Approach (+2.69) and was 5th in SG: Tee-to-Green (+2.36). Keegan didn’t finish well due to his poor putting which is to be expected from him, however, as he is a quick starter and has an early tee-time, I think he is a great pick this week if your trying to save some salary.
