We head right back to Darlington Wednesday night for the Toyota 500k. I expect to see a few similarities from what we witnessed on Sunday, such as high tire wear and passing to be a challenge. Keep in mind, this is a night race and the temps will be cooler than what they were on Sunday. Also, this is a shorter race of 228 laps as opposed to 293 laps on Sunday.

Let’s take a look at my core, cash and GPP plays for this weekend.

Core plays

William Byron- Bryon will start in the Toyota 500 from the 34th position on Wednesday night. William is one of the best place differential plays on the board, and he should be a popular choice. Before Byron experienced a loose wheel back on Sunday in the first Darlington race, he was in contention for a top 5 finish or possibly a win.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Ricky will start 39th on Wednesday night at Darlington. Back on Sunday, Ricky was wrecked out on lap 1, finished last, and will have to start shot gun on the field. Traditionally, Ricky is runs strong at steep tracks like Darlington. Ricky has the best floor in the field for Wednesday night’s Toyota 500, and I will be overweight the projected ownership to the field.

Cash Plays

Jimmie Johnson- Jimmie will start the Toyota 500 from the 37th starting positon. Jimmie led 30 laps back on Sunday before crashing out of the race towards the end of stage 1. Jimmie has a secure floor heading into Wednesday night’s race starting so far back. I feel Johnson has a top 15 race car, and he should rebound very well here at Darlington in the Toyota 500.

Kevin Harvick- Harvick didn’t let us down back in Sunday’s race, as he led 159 of the 293 laps on the way to a victory. Kevin will start Wednesday’s Toyota 500 in the 19th starting position, and will have a little bit of work ahead of him. Kevin will be a popular choice coming off the victory back on Sunday afternoon, but I think you will need him for the floor of fantasy points.

GPP Plays

Denny Hamlin- Denny will start the Toyota 500 from the 16th starting spot. Denny finished 5th here at Darlington back on Sunday. Denny was 4th best in fastest laps and 3rd best in passing quality percentage on Sunday. I expect Kevin Harvick and Alex Bowman to draw more ownership than Denny, and I believe Denny is an excellent play off one of Harvick or Bowman.

Kurt Busch- Kurt finished 3rd on Sunday in the first race here at Darlington. Kurt has been very consistent over the last 3 races here at Darlington, with an average driver rating of 108.7. This driver rating puts Kurt 4th best among active drivers. Kurt will start Wednesday night’s race in the 18th starting spot. Kurt is risky for cash games, but his ceiling for big tournaments on both sites is high.
