Matched up against Charlotte last weekend the Tigers bagged two touchdowns in the first quarter then added 10 more points in the second for a 24-0 halftime edge. Memphis continued to push in the second half, eventually winning it 59-8 in the end. QB Marcus Stokes had a 20-of-25 line for 318 yards and five touchdowns. Jermane Hayes caught six balls for 123 yards and a score.

I’ll stay with Memphis. The Tigers didn’t have any issues with Charlotte in their latest outing, bagging a whopping 36 first downs, 674 total yards and a nice 10-of-16 success rate on third downs. On defense Memphis held the Niners to just eight first downs, 209 total yards and 1-of-10 on third downs. That makes 42 or more points in each of the last three victories for the Tigers.

As for UAB, they started a bit slowly against a struggling Samford team last weekend but everything worked out. The Blazers held the Bulldogs to just 14 first downs and 3-of-11 on third-down tries along with three interceptions. UAB gained 400 yards on the other side with 248 rush yards and 23 first downs. Needless to say however, Memphis represents an uptick in competition.
