The Houston Cougars and the Utah Utes meet Saturday in college football action from Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. Here’s a Houston vs Utah prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Houston vs Utah pick. We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. As we conclude, we will tie it all together with a summary that produces a sensible pick for a favorable betting outcome in this game.

Houston Cougars Betting Preview

Houston opened up the year with a couple of consecutive wins. Those came courtesy of Oregon State and Southern. The Cougars would take their first loss of the season in game three versus Texas Tech in a tough outcome 28-26. Houston would follow that up with wins over Georgia Southern, UCF and Kansas State, giving the team a 5-1 start to the year.

In the Oklahoma State game, the Cougars were able to find the end zone a couple of times in the first half and went into the locker room with a 14-3 lead. Houston had to fight through a wild second half but eventually came out with a tight home win 35-32 in the end. QB Conner Weigman had 343 yards, five scores and a pick on 24-of-33 passing in the win.

Utah Utes Betting Preview

Over on the Utes’ side, they got off to an even better start this season. Utah blew past Idaho in their opener, then demolished Arkansas in game two. Game three was a blowout win over Utah State, then came another victory over Iowa State. After taking out Kansas 41-24 in game five, the Utes were looking up at a perfect record through the first five outings of the season.

In game six versus Colorado last weekend, the Utes managed a TD in the first quarter and a couple of field goals in the second for a 13-0 halftime edge. The Buffaloes woke up in the second half but Utah eventually put the game away 27-24 for a road victory. QB Devon Dampier was 24-of-41 for 278 yards, three scores and two picks in the winning effort.

Houston vs Utah Prediction

I’ll go with Utah but it’s a coin flip. The Utes did pretty well statistically against Colorado in their latest win but still only took it by three points. Utah gained 409 yards with 26 first downs and a couple of picks in that one, while the defense gave up 394 yards with 18 first downs and two takeaways (both interceptions). The Utes have scores 27 or more points in all six games so far this year with 31 or more in five of those.

As for Houston, they logged 505 yards of offense with 26 first downs in their win over Oklahoma State. The Cougars gave up 499 yards and 25 first downs on the other side but did have a couple of takeaways. Houston is on a four-game win streak right now, scoring 35 or more points in three of those outings.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Utah Utes -6.5
