Over on the Penguins’ side, they’ve had similarly mixed results this year, also resulting in a .500 run so far. Youngstown State opened with a loss to Pitt then took out Grand Canyon and Penn State-Shenango in the next pair. After losses to St. Bonaventure, Toledo and UNC Greensboro in the next three, the Penguins have since beaten Georgia Southern and Chicago State. That gives Youngstown State a 4-4 run over the first eight outings.
Matched up against Chicago State last Friday, the Penguins were up by 20 points at halftime. Youngstown State kept a 41-38 run the rest of the way and took the victory in the end 87-64. Tops in scoring were Cris Carroll (three assists) and Bryson Dawkins (two rebounds), each with 15 points. Vladimir Salaridze added 13 points with five rebounds in 16 minutes of work as well.

I’ll take a stab on the Penguins, but you could call this one either way. Youngstown State didn’t have too many issues with a winless Chicago State team in their last outing, notching 50.8 percent shooting from the field, 41.5 percent (17-of-41) from outside and 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) from the line. The Penguins did get outmuscled on the boards 32-28 and had 13 turnovers, though. Youngstown State had posted a tepid 129 combined points in their previous two games (a 1-1 run), so the 87 points were nice to see.
As for Wright State, they had a horrible second half versus Butler in their latest loss, eventually giving up 57.1 percent shooting from the field. The Raiders shot 42.3 percent from the field themselves alongside a 35-28 rebounding deficit. The good news is that Wright State has a nice 69 or more points in six straight games, so they should score pretty well here.
