Winthrop Eagles Betting Preview

The Eagles have had their ups and downs so far this year, but they’ve managed to maintain a .500 record through a half-dozen outings. Winthrop opened with a win over Queens U, then fell to George Mason and Coastal Carolina in the next two games. Since then it’s been a 2-1 record for the Eagles with a loss to Arkansas sandwiched between wins over Mercer and Jackson State. That gives Winthrop a 3-3 record so far this year.

In the Jackson State matchup on Sunday, the Eagles went into the locker room with a 32-32 tie. The Eagles got it going from there however, rolling on a 48-30 run for an 80-62 win in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Logan Duncomb with 14 points and two boards. Seifeldin Hendawy managed 12 points with four rebounds and three assists and Tai Hamilton added 10 points with four rebounds in 11 minutes of work on the floor in the victory effort.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview

Over on the Nebraska side, they kicked off their season with a string of wins and have been blemish-free thus far. The Cornhuskers beat West Georgia and Florida International in their first pair, then took out Maryland Eastern Shore. Following another win over Oklahoma, Nebraska has since dispatched New Mexico and Kansas State. The result so far has been a clean 6-0 record this year for the Cornhuskers.

Back on Friday versus Kansas State, Nebraska was sitting pretty at halftime with a 10-point edge. The Cornhuskers had to hang on through a 50-41 second half though, and eventually pulled off the win 86-85. Leading scorer Pryce Sandfort had 21 points with three boards, and Rienk Mast added 20 points with four rebounds and three assists. Braden Frager had 16 points with six boards and Sam Hoiberg had 13 points with four assists and three rebounds.

Winthrop vs Nebraska Prediction

I’ll take a stab on Winthrop here. The Eagles had a slow first half versus a struggling Jackson State team in their last outing but cleaned it up in the second. Winthrop finished with a 48.4 percent mark from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line alongside a 34-26 rebounding edge. The Eagles had a 38-20 advantage on points in the paint with just seven turnovers and 20 team assists. Winthrop lost a road matchup to Arkansas by just one point 84-83 last Tuesday so, they can hang with better teams when they’re so motivated.

As for Nebraska, they’re coming off a close call versus a pretty good Kansas State team. The Cornhuskers missed six of their 20 free throws (60 percent) and hit a tepid 8-of-32 (25 percent) from outside, though. Nebraska is scoring well this year with 84 or more points in five of six games. The Eagles will have to push hard to keep pace but I think they can do it.
