Western Michigan vs Old Dominion Prediction
I’ll stick with the Broncos. When Fennell came in to the head coaching vacancy this past spring, he built a roster designed to win now. The team boasts seven senior transfers, so there’s plenty of experience here to compliment Washington and Gomez’s familiarity with the playbook. One notable addition is Rob Lee, who bagged 16.0 PPG at Lamar a season ago—and who is a native of Flint, Michigan. If all goes well, this group will notch a winning record this season.
As for ODU, they’re something of an enigma at this point but they do have some solid talent on paper. The Monarchs are going to focus on being more physical this season and should see their defensive numbers improve as a result. Old Dominion also has a slightly easier schedule in 2026-27, so they’ll probably be taking a step forward.

Western Michigan Broncos Betting Preview
The 2025-26 campaign was a forgettable one for the Broncos. Western Michigan went just 10-21 overall with a rough 4-14 run in Mid-American Conference games. That effort would put the team ahead of only Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan in the conference standings and left them out of the tournament at the end of the season.
Following the firing of head coach Dwayne Stephens, Western Michigan gets former UT Rio Grande Valley man Kahil Fennell on the sideline. He’ll have to go back to the drawing board on starters, as all five from last year have departed—and given the record perhaps that’s a good thing. Two UTRGV players will join Fennell on the team this year. Those are Jaylen Washington (10.2 PPG) and sophomore Julien Gomez (7.5 PPG; 3.2 RPG).
Old Dominion Monarchs Betting Preview
Over on the Monarchs’ side, they didn’t have a great campaign last year either. Old Dominion limped to a 12-21 overall record and went 7-11 in Sun Belt games, finishing ahead of only Louisiana, Georgia State and Louisiana-Monroe along the way. After beating LA-Monroe in the conference tournament, the Monarchs fell to Georgia Southern 88-84.
This year Old Dominion has head coach Mike Jones back on the sideline for his third year. Jones has mustered a rocky 27-41 record so far and he’ll only have four returning players (zero starters) back in the fold. One intriguing addition is senior Adante’ Holiman, who was a third-team all-league selection at Georgia Southern in 2024-25.
