FIU would then go 3-4 over the next seven games with losses to Western Kentucky, Delaware, Liberty and Sam Houston for a 14-15 run through 29 games.
Matched up against Middle Tennessee on Thursday the Panthers had the slimmest of leads as the first half came to a close, ahead 34-33. Florida International was outscored 40-33 the rest of the way however, leading to a rough loss 73-67 on their home court. I’ll just stay with Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers posted a pretty tepid effort in a road loss versus a middling Missouri State team this week, though. In that one WKU shot 43.1 percent from the field with 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from outside while giving up 51.9 percent on defense. WKU did well on the boards and in the paint however, while putting up just six turnovers. The Hilltoppers are still 6-1 in their last seven games and scoring well overall with 80 or more points in all of those wins.
These teams last saw each other on February 7 in an 80-70 home win for the Hilltoppers. In that one Western Kentucky shot just 36.8 percent from the field but added 84.6 percent (11-of-13) at the line and a 38-32 rebounding edge. The Hilltoppers posted seven steals off 13 FIU turnovers and had just seven turnovers of their own. WKU will have their hands full in the road rematch but I like their chances a little better.
