Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Betting Preview

The Hilltoppers managed to win 11 of their first 17 overall games this year. Western Kentucky fell versus Kennesaw State, Liberty, Sam Houston and Kennesaw State again in the next quartet, though. Wins over Middle Tennessee, FIU, Middle Tennessee, Delaware, Liberty, New Mexico State and UTEP came over the next eight, and that would give the Hilltoppers an 18-11 record through 29 games.

On Thursday versus Mississippi State, the Hilltoppers carried a 43-38 deficit into the locker room at the break. Western Kentucky didn’t end up getting any closer, hitting a 44-36 deficit the rest of the way in an 87-74 loss in the end. Tops in scoring during the defeat was Teagan Moore with 23 points and three rebounds. Grant Newell added 13 points with five rebounds in the loss.

FIU Panthers Betting Preview

Over on the Florida International side, they were a tepid 9-5 in their first 14 outings, then hit a five-game losing streak. The next three were a 2-1 run with wins over New Mexico State and Middle Tennessee. FIU would then go 3-4 over the next seven games with losses to Western Kentucky, Delaware, Liberty and Sam Houston for a 14-15 run through 29 games.

Matched up against Middle Tennessee on Thursday the Panthers had the slimmest of leads as the first half came to a close, ahead 34-33. Florida International was outscored 40-33 the rest of the way however, leading to a rough loss 73-67 on their home court. Tops on the team was Julian Mackey with 16 points while Eric Dibami had 13 points with six boards. Corey Stephenson added 13 points as well.

Western Kentucky vs Florida International Prediction

I’ll just stay with Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers posted a pretty tepid effort in a road loss versus a middling Missouri State team this week, though. In that one WKU shot 43.1 percent from the field with 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from outside while giving up 51.9 percent on defense. WKU did well on the boards and in the paint however, while putting up just six turnovers. The Hilltoppers are still 6-1 in their last seven games and scoring well overall with 80 or more points in all of those wins.

These teams last saw each other on February 7 in an 80-70 home win for the Hilltoppers. In that one Western Kentucky shot just 36.8 percent from the field but added 84.6 percent (11-of-13) at the line and a 38-32 rebounding edge. The Hilltoppers posted seven steals off 13 FIU turnovers and had just seven turnovers of their own. WKU will have their hands full in the road rematch but I like their chances a little better.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers -1
